Live Arts Exchange (LAX), a new contemporary performance series featuring all-local artists in theater, dance, music, and cross-genre performance will launch in two short weeks with a performance/party curated by Nicole Disson, producer of THE SERIES, a multi-disciplinary production and event previously set on the rooftop of The Standard, Downtown LA. LAUNCH PAD, Disson’s themed event, will take place on Thursday, September 19, 2013 and will merge social happening with performing arts at the Bootleg Theater.
Over 70 local artists are involved with LAX, from intermingling communities in contemporary dance, theater, experimental animation and even punk opera. Timur & the Dime Museum, Miwa Matreyek, Meg Wolfe, and Poor Dog Group represent just a sampling of LA-based artists involved who perform at well-respected venues across the country.
LAUNCH PAD alone will feature well over fifty incredible artists as the point of departure for the rest of the festival. The singular event will premiere new contemporary dance pieces from choreographer Kitty McNamee of Hysterical Dance Co. and feature new works by choreographer Mecca Vazie Andrews and The MOVEMENT Movement. There will be live musical performances by indie-pop songstress Coco Morier (Electrocute), Jesse Nolan and members of his band Caught a Ghost (+1 Records) and rapper VERBS.
An array of performance art and instillations will take shape throughout the theater, including pieces by an internationally renowned installation, environmental artist, painter and sculptor Lita Albuquerque, performance artist D’Arcy F-M, poet Jacqueline Suskin of POEM STORE, musician/artist Daiana Feuer and actresses Tanya Fischer and Vivian Bang. Writer Mandy Kahn (Collage Culture) will be partnering with composer Daniel Corral to score her poetry to Corral’s original classical composition and works by filmmaker Mariana Blanco and photographer Austin Irving will be projected throughout the evening, with DJ sets by Pharaohs and Jung Hollywood. The list is growing.
