Artist and composer Sage Lewis recently wrote a remarkable and exciting article for American Theatre Magazine- gracing this month’s cover. Sparked by the announcements of normalization of U.S./Cuba relations made by Barack Obama and Raúl Castro last Dec. 17, the article provides a historical context and visionary insight into the potential for artistic and cultural collaborations with bold and inspiring artists on the island.
The Closest Farthest Away pre-dates Los Angeles Performance Practice by about six months, but this project is significant in our personal and company histories. This project served as a springboard and inspiration for our artist-driven producing model, and was the first major project to be produced with LAPP founder Miranda Wright. Several of the artists involved in this ground-breaking collaboration continue to be networked to LAPP, and we can’t wait to see what the future holds for them.
