Created and performed by the Alpert Award-winning artist Jeanine Durning, inging is a choreography of the mind. It is a rush of uninterrupted and unscripted speech that tracks the velocity of thought and maps the terrain of a shared present moment. In inging, Durning applies her physical practice of “non-stopping” to the act of speaking, invoking a force that is at once internal and external, physical and metaphysical. Durning’s spoken language stutters, flows, loops and leaps in a dance dictated by her exacting discipline. As thoughts emerge as words, and words emerge from the body, inging brings both speaker and listener to a place a paradoxical intimacy—confronting the edges of intelligibility while revealing the body and its gesture as an inevitable bridge between thought and language, at the moment of articulation.

WORKSHOP WITH JEANINE DURNING
Rooted in Durning’s practice of “nonstopping,” this all-levels, all-people workshop is designed to deepen attention to subconscious thoughts, feelings and perceptions. By uncensoring movement and accepting “not-knowing” and “the not-yet” as generative states, Durning guides participants to new tools for choice-making in the moment, and challenges presumed relationships to presence and performance. Group and solo exercises employ a circular series of nonstop moving, speaking and writing to foster a closer understanding of the inherent structures of thinking (eclectic, idiosyncratic, and often paradoxical) that become manifest as actions, behaviors and communications—as well as performance choices, compositions and choreographies.

We are thrilled to have the opportunity to present two works by acclaimed Bulgarian artist Ivo Dimchev in Los Angeles: his brilliant and captivating SONGS FROM MY SHOWS, and a work rarely presented in the US: P PROJECT.
Ivo Dimchev is known for his provocative and often controversial performance works that explore connections between tragedy and humor and one’s personal sense of modesty. Selected as one of the best theater performances for 2012 by Nachtkritik-Theatertreffen, P-PROJECT is an interactive performance based on “P” words such as People (i.e., police, painters, prostitutes), Piano, Pussy, Poetry, and Poppers. With this work, Dimchev confronts taboos surrounding money, value, creative labor and content authority, inviting audience participation and testing the audience’s creativity and desire for risk-taking.
SONGS FROM MY SHOWS features 15 songs from his past performances to present as independent, individual opuses. While his work blends performance art, dance, theater, and visual art, Dimchev’s enormous musicality and his remarkable vocal gift are at the center of each of his productions.
Dimchev is author of more than 30 performances. He has received numerous international awards for dance and theater and has presented his work across Europe, South America, and North America. He has led master classes at the National Theater Academy in Budapest, the Royal Dance Conservatory of Belgium in Antwerp, Hochschule der Künste in Bern, Switzerland, DanceWeb in Vienna, Giessen University in Germany, the Bremen Academy of Art, and other institutions. Dimchev is the founder and director of the Humarts Foundation in Bulgaria and organizes an annual competition for contemporary Bulgarian choreography. Dimchev is currently an Artist in Residence at Kaaitheater in Brussels. In 2014, he opened MOZEI in Sofia, Bulgaria, as an independent space for presenting contemporary art and music.

Join Poor Dog Group for the first of a few open studios, as they develop their next work: GROUP THERAPY.
The members of Poor Dog Group met when they were eighteen years old, and have been making art together for more than a decade. Their newest work, Group Therapy, draws on 16 hours of audio recordings from the group’s actual therapy with a licensed professional to probe the inner workings of long-term collaboration. It is a documentary performance centered on close-knit group of friends as they process their marriages, divorces, falling outs, alcoholism, the hustle of making art together, and above all, what it is like to endure.
