The Bootleg Theater has partnered with producer Miranda Wright and her company Los Angeles Performance Practice to produce an exciting new live performance series featuring all local artists in contemporary theater, dance, music, and cross-genre performance. LAX promises to showcase some of the most innovative artists and independent companies in LA, create social events that encourage cross-genre hangout, and play an important role in the elevation of Los Angeles performance work within national and international networks.
Performances will kick off on Thursday, September 19 with a launch event/performance party curated by Nicole Disson, producer of THE SERIES, a multi-disciplinary production and event previously set on the rooftop of The Standard, Downtown LA that cross-pollinates a social experience with the performing arts. LAX will run for three weeks, September 19 through October 3, 2013 overlapping with the bi-annual international theater festival, RADAR LA.
“This is an incredible opportunity to see the work of innovative, younger companies in the city. Our lineup is really amazing- and most of this work has shown at well-respected venues outside of Los Angeles. ABACUS premiered at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival in the New Frontiers Section, Ocean Flight was recently seen at the Manipulate Festival in Edinburgh, and Timur & The Dime Museum just returned from a hugely successful performance at Joe’s Pub in New York. We live in a city with so much creative wealth, and I’m looking forward to celebrating the work as a city this September,” commented producer Miranda Wright.
The lineup features work from Poor Dog Group (seen recently at REDCAT and the Getty Villa), Early Morning Opera’s ABACUS, which has been seen at the Sundance Film Festival and REDCAT, a selection from Show Box LA’s contemporary dancers and choreographers, including Meg Wolfe and Jennie MaryTai Liu, punk opera band Timur & the Dime Museum, director Chi-wang Yang, a preview of new work from Zoe Aja Moore, and an exclusive event with award-winning animator Miwa Matreyek.
